A Mission Trip From the Youth’s Perspective
Over the years, I and all of Rockdale EMC in Conyers, Georgia have been blessed by our numerous opportunities to share our church and homes with our missionaries; while we praise the Lord for being able to participate in their outreach through prayer and financial support, we thank God even more for having been able to personally share in their field of calling through a missions trip this past July. With a group of ten, adults and teens, we traveled down to Monterrey, Mexico where we struggled at times in using the Spanish language—some knowing more than others—but were able to put our hands into good use. Some of our group assisted neighborhood children in Vacation Bible School art projects while others painted a kitchen for a pastor and his family. On the Sunday during our visit, we were able to participate in various services around the city during which a trio of our youth played trumpets and our pastor preached, the translation graciously provided by Vernon Perkins, whom we thank deeply for all that he did for us—especially for driving us on those crazy roads! Remembering Monterrey, as we always will, we treasure the kindness of the people, the smiles of the children, and our new appreciation for our missionaries, praising the Lord for this experience that not only touched us and challenged us, but changed us.
