EMC – OMS – WGM
History
In 1956, Oriental Missionary Society (now OMS International) and World Gospel Mission were officially recognized by the EMC and an affiliation was established between them. Both OMS and WGM had national leaders living in California during the early days of the EMC, and OMS President Eugene Ernie, and WGM President George Warner lived in Southern California, OMS’ headquarters were on Hobart Blvd. in Los Angeles. Dr. Warner lived in Glendora. Some of OMS’ founding leaders were members of the Evangelical Methodist Church, including Dr. and Mrs. Culver, and Mrs. Cowman who wrote best-selling devotional books like Streams in the Desert. Dr. Cornelius P. Haggard, President of Pacific Bible College (later Azusa Pacific College, finally Azusa Pacific University) joined the EMC in 1951, at the General Conference held at First EMC in Phoenix.
