Our
History
The congregation was
organized on August 25, 1969 as an independent group of believers in the
historic doctrines of Methodism. We were chartered by the
Commonwealth of Virginia on February 1, 1970 and adopted the name Christ
Independent Methodist Church. In 1990, the congregation voted to
affiliate with the Evangelical Methodist Church, a denomination with whom
it shared common
goals and beliefs.
Our church government is
both congregational and connectional. The congregational dimension
affirms the right of the local church to select or change its pastoral
leadership
by congregational vote, and retain ownership of all local church property.
The connectional dimension
provides general leadership and oversight with access to a roster of
ordained ministers who are trained in and loyal to the Biblical
foundations of traditional Methodist teaching.
